Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association (CHWA) Mission Statement: “The mission of the CHWA is to strengthen, promote, and maintain our successful historic downtown district.” How: Use the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street Four Point Program. Membership meetings are held the third Thursday of the month at 8:00 AM at Local Grown. Who: Membership is open to everyone who has an interest in preservation and revitalization of Coupeville’s traditional historic commercial core. Objectives: --Promote the historic character --Create identity icon --Increase awareness of what’s available --Find ways to bring people downtown in the “shoulder season Economic Restructuring Committee Goal: To strengthen the district’s economic base. Objectives: --Develop a business success program --Identify and recruit needed businesses Design Committee Goal: To maintain a user-friendly district. Objectives: --Maintain historic character --Help identify and encourage public Infrastructure improvements --Encourage effective signage --Improve public amenities --Create a cleaner district |
Current CHWA Activities: --Mussel Fest --Wharf Fest --Outdoor Orca Sculpture --Weekend Music --Hanging Flower Pots FUNDING A funding opportunity for businesses. Any business that pays a B&O Tax and files electronically is eligible to take advantage of a special tax credit aimed at helping to support state approved historic preservation organizations such as the Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association. Once a business is approved by the state, donations may be made directly to the CHWA. The state allows an individual business to take a maximum credit of $250,000 per year An approved program may receive a maximum donation of $100,000 per year. By participating in the Main Street Tax Credit Incentive Program business can help support their community’s historic commercial district and takes an B&O tax credit for doing so.
